O'Brien (Cdr. William Woodward Outerbridge) is damaged by gunfire from a German shore battery of Cherbourgh, France.  8 killed

While operating of Okinawa, O'Brien (Cdr. William Woddward Outerbridge) in heavily damaged by a Japanese kamikaze aircraft in position 26º16'N, 127º26'E.  53 Of the crew were killed and 73 wounded and amongst them the Commanding officer Cdr. Outerbridge.

Stricken 18 February 1972.
Sunk as a target off the coast of California 13 July 1972.
