USS Chevalier (Cmdr George Rees Wilson) was damaged beyond repair by the
Japanese destroyer Yugumo off Vella Lavella, Solomons Islands on 6 October
1943. 54 of her crew were killed and 58 wounded and the Survivors which included the Commanding officer who was wounded, were rescued by the USS Obannion. (DD 450) |
